WHAT WE DO
Coombes & Gabbie Lighting Design is a New Zealand owned and operated family business that has been in the lighting industry for over 50 years. We have seen many changes in lighting and make it our priority to keep up with the latest design trends and ever changing lighting innovations. Our lighting designers know the role that lighting plays in architecture and interior design. They have an unparalleled understanding and knowledge of lighting technology. Bad lighting can destroy beautiful spaces. It can be calming, invigorating, exciting, revealing, and mysterious. At the flick of a switch the mood of a room can be transformed from light and functional, to subtle and atmospheric. It is very easy to make mistakes when specifying your own lighting scheme by providing too little light, too much light, the wrong type of light, or badly positioned light sources. Lighting designers know how to achieve the optimum effect by ensuring light fittings are properly placed, in the correct quantity, and using the correct lamp. Technical details such as lumens, CRI (colour rendering index), and colour temperature are used by lighting designers to ensure exactly the right lamp and fitting are specified. |
3 SIMPLE STEPS
To make your lighting environment that little bit more extraordinary.
The Planning PhaseGathering the correct information is vital. Allow 1 – 2 hours for the initial consultation, ideally held in our showroom. This is to talk through your design brief/project and make sure that the lighting meets the needs of all people using the space, and to ensure your spaces are lit to optimum effect.

The Design Phase Following on from the initial consultation, all information is collated and we develop a lighting design specific to you and your project. Once the preliminary lighting design is complete we make a time to go over it in full detail, this takes place in our showroom where we have the ability to demonstrate the selected luminaires.

The Development PhaseFollowing on from confirmation of the lighting design, we allow for 3 site visits through the course of the project. It is important for us to build a great relationship with your electrician and builder, to be able to consult on lighting placement and installation. We also work along side your interior designer, kitchen designer and joiner whilst planning, designing, scheduling, quoting, packing and delivering.
